Jack (voiced by Orlando Seale) and Miss Acacia (Samantha Barks)
(Warning, spoilers!)
I watch a lot of animated movies but I never thought I could get my hands on such a special and peculiar one such as Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart.
Adapted from Mathias Malzieu book "La Mécanique du Coeur" (which I can't wait to get). Jack (Orlando Seale) was born on the coldest day in the world in Edinburgh, because of that his heart freezes. So Madeline (Barbara Scaff) implants a cuckoo clock as his new heart. However, in order to live, Jack must obey three rules:
- Never touch the hands of the clock;
- Never lose his temper;
- Never fall in love;
When Jack visits the town for the first time he meets Miss Acacia (Samantha Barks), a tiny little singer that sprouts thorns whenever threatened. The two immediately fall in love while singing one of my favourite songs of the movie (Flamme à Lunettes) and for the first time, Jack experiences consequences of not following the rules.
When he goes to school he meets Joe (Harry Sadeghi), a tall guy that is also in love with Miss Acacia. He bullies Jack throughout the years until he accidentally pokes Joe's eye with the cuckoo. Afraid of the consequences of that accident, Jack decides to leave Edinburgh.
Thinking only about Miss Acacia, Jack eventually meets up with Georges Méliès (Stephane Cornicard), a magician attempting to operate an early film camera. After getting help with his heart they proceed together to Andalusia.
When they're finally reunited, Miss Acacia doesn't recognise Jack but after a few dates together he finally reveals his identity to her. They agree to run away together but right before it happens, Joe shows up and explains to Miss Acacia the three rules.
Afraid of hurting Jack and possibly killing him, Miss Acacia rejects him and leaves with Joe. Jack, after being rejected, tears at the screws of his heart.
Joe explains that Madeline died in prison, rumours said that she died of a broken heart because of Jack. Miss Acacia eventually realizes she holds the key to Jack's heart and returns to search for him, but he was already on his way back to Edinburgh so she follows him.
Back to Edinburgh, she finds Jack in front of Madeleine's grave, shivering in the cold. She tries to use the key to turn his clock but in the end he chooses love over life and they finally kiss.

I loved this movie so much! The music is beautiful, and there is such a wide variety of it too! I definitely recommend it, it is for sure one of my favourite movies! It is not like a Disney movie, it's very surrealistic and it gives you a Tim Burton vibe, so if you don't like that type of thing then I do not recommend this. However I really do think it was brilliant!
